Football: SAFFC Slip Up In S.League
SINGAPORE: League leaders SAFFC’s advantage at the top of the NTUC Income-Yeo’s S.League 2008 could be reduced to a point on Tuesday, after Gombak United held them to a 1-1 draw at Choa Chu Kang Stadium on Monday.
Home United, who visit bottom club Balestier Khalsa on Tuesday night, beat SAFFC 2-1 on Friday to close the gap to four points.
The Warriors struggled to carve out chances in the first half, managing only to get a shot on target in the 44th minute.
But Gombak’s dogged resistance finally broke down in the 51st minute, when Ahmad Latiff was hauled down in the box.
Aleksandar Duric scored from the penalty spot to chalk up his 243rd career goal in all domestic competitions, just one shy of equalling Mirko Grabovac’s record.
But it was the Bulls who showed more purpose after that, and they were rewarded in the 69th minute when Kingsley Njoku connected with Ruhaizad Ismail’s cross to fire home from close range.
In another match, Geylang United beat Sengkang Punggol 2-1. -
